Blown glass vase with bronze sculpture of a navel

Under My Skin, Memory of a Shell, a new series of works in blown glass and bronze, continues Roch-Cuerrier’s reflections on the materialization of embodied temporality. Small bronze sculptures are placed at the mouth of the vases: casts of the artist’s navel. They represent points of passage to an interiority, evoking a moment of exchange and transformation. Varying levels of opacity on the glass surface reveal to the viewer objects suspended inside the blown vases: bronze casts of shell interiors. Giving form to a usually invisible internal space, their physical manifestation reveal a spiral-like structure tracing a circular growth. Under My Skin, Memory of a Shell brings us back to an internal center of gravity, from which emerges a cyclical, shifting temporality.
